The Ignite newsletter had been on hiatus for a while. Sorry it's been so long -
we'll try not to let it happen again.
February is proving to be a very busy month with lots of events and other promotions starting up.
First and foremost, we are co-hosting a World Record Event on February 11th. At this event we'll
be setting the record for "the most of participants at a speed networking event" - EVER. As far as we
can tell this record is vacant and we're going to be starting it off with a bang. We're expecting over
300 participants and would love to set it at 400!
See below for high level details.

If you are in Virginia, you won't want to miss this one-of-a-kind opportunity! Please spread the word
and help us to make it the most effective and fun speed networking event ever held!

NETWORKING TIP
Don't Sell
To some this tip will seem non-sensical, to others it's so obvious it's not worth mentioning.
Whether attending a networking event, doing some follow-up networking, or passing along networking
referrals to someone "in your circle", you should never, ever be selling your product or services.
Networking is all about getting to know other people and having them get to know you. If it's a good fit
and you can help each other out, eventually it can lead to sending business or opportunities to each other.
The minute you start a sales pitch, you can kiss that person goodbye as a networking contact. Sure, you
should let them know what you do, but that's a far cry from a sales pitch. Too many people go to a
networking event expecting to find customers and get turned off when it doesn't work. The problem is
they're trying to turn a screw with a hammer - it only leads to frustration and dissapointment.
Remember, it's not about the 50 people in the room, it's about the 5000 people that those people know.

"As an event planner and user of Ignite Speed Networking it takes out all of the stress and guesswork of making sure all our attendees get the most out of the networking event. It provides a fun, relaxed, and truly effective way of meeting the most people in the short amount of time. Best of all, Ignite Speed Networking customer service is top notch which is hard to find these days."

EVENT TIP
Create Staggered Breaks
If your event is 90 minutes or more, it's a really good idea to insert a break in the middle
to keep everyone awake, refreshed, and fed. If it's more than 2 hours, it's an absolute necessity!
If you have 100 or more people at your event, this can lead to a mad-house crush in the hallway
and at the refreshment table. But don't be afraid to change things up!
Stagger your attendees into separate breaks. Having 3 breaks with 30-40 people at a time can
really clear up the congestion. They'll be more relaxed, will be able to use the restroom AND get
a new beverage, and if you play it right, their break time can be a chance to do some "free mingling"
networking to boot!
While it may not be possible to stagger your breaks during a keynote presentation, you can now do
it very easily with Ignite Speed Networking. When setting up your event in the Ignite software,
you simply specify which rounds of networking you want to stagger the breaks across and you're done.
The participants will get a "Br" on their table assignment card for their break round. For instance,
if you chose to have breaks on rounds 2, 4, and 6, Ignite will choose 1/3 of the participants for
each mini-break. While some are on break, everyone else continues networking.

"Coming out of every session, I have always had various leads to follow up. In addition, Ignite sends out the contact information of the individuals at each table that allows additional follow up. It is a wonderful way to meet a variety of people from numerous industries in the greater Richmond area. Thanks."
